selective shyness.

In general I am not a shy person. I am very open and friendly. But in some circumstances I can be extremely shy.

As a kid I transitioned from not shy (when I lived in switzerland), to shy (when I moved to America), to not shy again (just a few years ago).

Although, now my shyness varies on what situation I am in. Now I can still be shy in big classes, and I like sitting in the back and try to not talk. But for exercise classes (spin, yoga, aerobic) I like being up in the front row (which most people hate) and speaking up.

yoga class.

I taught my first yoga class tonight and it was so FUN! A little nerve racking but exhilarating.
I kind of wrote down a routine that I had with me in class which helped if I forgot what we were doing, but my routine built on itself. I really just had it written down for extra confidence, because most of it was in my head.

It was fun to focus on my words and the explanations of how to move smoothly and move from pose to pose. This is a challenge for me, I talk without thinking about what I am saying. But I had to be clear and direct. And I suck at public speaking, but I did well.

All in all I LOVE IT! I love yoga.

Robbie saying he was proud of me after class and I did well, was just icing on the cake. I am soooo proud of my brother, and I look up to him. In my eyes he is a superhero, so when he is proud of me I feel great!

Selena came....a friendly face made my nerves go away.

I woke up yesterday morning to...

Buddy licking the bottom of my feet. My feet are already extremely ticklish so this was pure torture but also very funny. She is a total sweetheart!

"i feel like too little butter scraped over too much bread"

...Words of the great Bilbo Baggins.

Some days I just feel a bit too stretched with having to be a constant entertainer and host, and have to be so many places, with so many obligations, and so many people wanting me in a million different places.

The past two weeks have been a bit busy, that is why I have been very bad at posting. With moving in, settling, and classes starting, then cousins, cousins, and more cousins, being locked out of my place for hours at a time, and my very drawn out schedule saga.

Little has changed to my schedule except instead of weight control I am not in ballet which I am so excited for!

I have been waking up in the wee hours of the morning (before the sun wakes up) to go out and exercise when it's cool outside.

I have done a pretty good job staying on top of everything, but i feel like I haven't had one second to just relax. I am enjoying my cousins going drinking with my brother while I sit here by myself and do nothing (well that is not true, I am doing more settling).

Also I forgot how hard and discouraging it is to be given a hard time by almost everyone about my nutritionist. I am sick of having to defend it, and that they talk out of ignorance. They won't listen when I explain why I need to avoid certain things, and tell them how good I feel now. They also refuse to believe I was sick before, but I am not about to tell them what exactly was wrong with me. It's hard, I have decided to just stop telling everyone what I can't eat. Makes life easier...hopefully.

Erica and Selena are such lovely roommates! Erica and I have made so many delicious dinners! We are great chefs!

fall classes

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my fall schedule. after much confusion and frustration i finally have my scheduled figured out.

Intro to Music
Black and White photography
Italian
Figure drawing
Yoga
Weight Control (its like working out and food journaling...two things i already do. I figured why not get credit for it)
Soccer

it's fun.

I would also like to say how much i LOVE making dinner with E. Tonight we had salmon, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, and fruit salad.
I took one bite of it, and realized I had to be in class in 5 minutes. I dashed out the door and made it... kind of late.
I did come home from class, to music playing, our Christmas lights on, and all our candles lit. Great stuff right!

Toby vs Buddy traveling

Saturday night we flew out to austin. It's very different how Buddy and Toby travel.

First off Toby is to big for on the plane, so he has to go under in the cargo hold.
Buddy is small enough to sit under my seat.

Both were fine in the airport, but the second Toby saw his crate being put together he started to violently shake. (i thought his was hilarious) Mom had to pep talk him into going in, and then fight with him and shove him in.

Buddy is perfectly happy in the airport, getting picked up to go through security, and even once she is settled in on the plane. She does not like car rides or take off and landing. I always worry about her, but she really becomes used to the plane and either lays down and sleeps the whole way, or happily eats. (i even had to refill her food she ate so much this time ) I really like how everyone acts the exact same when they see I have a bunny in a crate. AWWWW, a bunny! I feel like this makes people happy and laugh, yet also has them thinking I am nuts.

I can't even imagine what Toby is like under the plane. Since he is a VERY nervous dog and afraid of almost everything. The reunion with mom after the flight is funny. It's almost as if he thought he would never see her again. (Toby loves mom more than anything) He is super jumpy and still a little nuts for a few days after the plane ride.

I'm just happy we are all here safely.

ps.I missed Jeff so much, I LOVE that he is here now!

a sweet treat...

After yoga the other day I come home and want something sweet. I go out to my garden and pick a whole bowl full of strawberries! The smell sweet and taste even sweeter. These strawberries are my favorite thing about summer.

Hiking

There is this great park by us called Del Valle. It's got a great hike, and a lake which is usually pretty warm.
We started going up there when I was in 7th grade because we could take Toby there and he didn't have to be on his leash. He would run all over the hills, up and down, and chase the prairie dogs. It was fun to watch, since he never actually got tired. Now its a different story since he is a bit older. But my mom and I would go for hikes up there almost everyday when I was home schooled.
Now I like to go up there for a swim, or just to hike.
This particular time I went farther than I have ever gone. Usually I only do the same 45 min out and back, but I went an hour and a half out and back.
It was fun. Toby is good company. Although I will admit I was a bit scared of rattlesnakes and mountain lions.

Weekend in Colorado

I had such a great time with Robbie and his roomies! We did so much fun stuff!!! My favorite was probably the first thing we did saturday morning, I accompanied the boys on their long run on a bike. The biking was hard because it was robbie's dinky road bike and we were on a hilly gravel path. But the scenery was beautiful. There were beautiful green hills, flowers, and horses. It really reminded me of Switzerland.
Rob wasn't feeling so hot after the run, so he slept while me and his roomies chilled. We went out for bison burgers, and ice cream that night.
Sunday we went up to Boulder with Bdumm and explored all around it. We went to the park, shopping, had lunch, met up with Hilary and Leighann for ice cream, went to a tea house for a tea party, did some more shopping, had dinner, then drove up to flagstaff to see the sunset.
It was a great weekend, the most fun i had since i visited waco. I love the boys there, they are so funny and fun! Bdumm is probably my new best friend!
I feel asleep on the car ride home with buddy. =) I missed her. haha

"maria you are everything"

...That is what my cousin Julia told me today on the phone. haha.
I called her because I heard from my mom and my aunt on how hard she was working at soccer, running, and eating well. I am so extremely proud of her for working hard (running 2 times a day!)

My aunt told me how Julia noticed how I acted, and what I did on vacation this year- Eating well and exercising. My aunt was happy she had such a good role model. Even Julia told me how she wanted to be like me. I thought this was very sweet.

One of my friends at home, also just told me the other day how I was an inspiration to her, to work harder and exercise.

A friend at Baylor, told me last year she wished she could be me.

I guess sometimes you do not realize who you influence. The people in my life who have the biggest influence probably don't know who they are...

clash of the titans

For the past month I have had an internal struggle between the easy going side of me and the super intense, super competitive, give it your all side of me.
I have quit the cross country team, because of a bad case of tendentious in my knees. Which I recognize as a smart decision. But now I still find the desire in me, to stay in my 50 mile a week shape. This is close to impossible without dedicated 3-4 hours a day of cross training and swimming.
Talking to my trainer about it, and hearing that I can not stay in that shape without running. Helped me realize I need to stop trying to stay in that shape, and ease up on the multiple works outs in one day.
But the clash continued of wanting to stay in good running shape for hopefully the bearathon next spring. But knowing I should be going easy on my knees, to help them fully recover.
Something hit me this weekend, and I realized I am already in above average shape. So I stopped pushing myself so hard. I kept telling myself I don't have to be in the great running shape, I can ease back in to it. I also should focus on having fun instead of killing myself in each workout.
The only thing I can't silence is the question in the back of my head if I will be in good enough shape to do the bearathon? I want to try and do it at least one year, since I could not do it this year because of a different injury to my knee.

But I have resolved to take it down a few notches, and do it because I want to be healthy and strong.

clothesline

I want to make a picture clothesline for my room, for over my vanity.

Please send me pictures you have taken or like. I'm still looking for more. =)

exciting news...

+
Billy and I are the new yoga instructors for UBC. This is VERY exciting news for me!

One of my life long dreams is to be a yoga instructor. =)

I have only been doing it for around 2 years, about 2 times a week for the most part. Now I am taking 3-5 classes a week to prepare.
I am not very flexible but I have pretty good balance which helps. That is why I have been stretching so much everyday.

I am extremely happy.

Also the past two days I have been able to talk to boyfriend for a while, which hasn't happened in almost a week it seems like. He was free the night I got home from the mountains but i was to sick and tired to talk. So it was very nice to talk to him. =)

Mac and cheese, fish sticks, and a smoothie for dinner. =)

Recently...

I have been in a bad mood, for no real reason.
I have gone to the Sierras for the day.
I have got lost hiking.
I have packed most of my things for Texas (very early i know, i am just beside my self with excitement).
I have developed more of a crush on Erica and Selena.
I have gotten very very car sick from driving up to the mountains.
I have eaten In N Out burger twice.
I have painted my nails a beautiful red blackberry color.
I have decided on a car.
I have canoed.
I have learned I need to become flexible, very quickly. So I have also been stretching a lot.
I have resumed running. Only 5 miles at a time.
I have sent Jeff another letter.
I have had a smoothie explode all over me (even all in my hair) and all over the kitchen.
I have enjoyed a delicious milkshake.
I have been asked if I was over 13.
I have swam in a alpine lake.

my summer life

My life in the summer is really very boring.

An average day in the life of maria:
wake up early
go to work
work for 6 hours (i cant do a full day of 8 hours, it drives me too crazy)
come home from work
go to the gym
yoga class
dinner
snuggling with buddy in bed and watch tv or movies
go to sleep around 9 or 10.
