a skirt challenge

I am starting to believe girls were made to wear skirts and dresses.
I want to try to wear skirts and dresses as much as I can for an entire year. Any of you girls with me? (erika!?)
It would be a bit hard for me since I am a bit of a tomboy at times. I love long boarding around campus.
But I'm up for the challenge.

beach activities...

The water is SOOO cold at the beach this year. Normally it's cold in June, but it is FREEZING this year!
Even though the water is cold, it does not keep me away from the beach...only out of the water. Today was a perfect beach day, hot, a little bit windy, and lots of people. I spent probably almost 10 hours today at the beach. =)
Since I am not a big reader, and i don't really like listening to my ipod (i like hearing the sound of the ocean and the birds) I people watch. Today there was a lot of hilarious kids to watch. The best part of my day was in the afternoon when there were four girls playing in front of us. They were so funny! The things they said and the ridiculous things they did. It was good entertainment.

At dinner we discussed at what makes a salad a salad? We came down to it needed dressing...but no there is fruit salad, potato salad, pasta salad?

a question that won't seem to go away...

I have been around family all weekend. Not just my mom's side either (which is the side i normally see and spend time with) some of my dad's side was here too. Over the past year there have been significant changes in my life that everyone wants to talk about.
I have been asked a certain question numerous times, by almost every girl of the family and a few guys.
I think maybe it's my age and that I am in college they think I'm starting to plan a bigger part of my life. But I am really not. I have at least two and a half more years at Baylor, and the question they are asking I do not want it to apply to me until after college. I'm enjoying college and love my life the way it is.
I did respond to all their questions the same though.
I would not be in my current situation if I think it did not have a possible future.

a quick word for the food industry

PLEASE stop putting freaking corn syrup and soybean oil in everything!
It's not healthy. It's not doing anyone good.
For someone who is allergic to corn and soy I can not eat anything processed because it is in everything! Even bread and cold cuts.

Dear FDA,

Start cracking down on processed food. It is full of unhealthy synthetic chemicals that are making people fat and sick.

Toby and BUddy's vet visit

Buddy has a hurt paw and had to go to the vet to get it checked out. We wanted to go before vacation so the neighbor who was watching her didn't have to worry about anything. My mom decided it was time for Toby's checkup as well.
It was hilarious. Toby makes so many people laugh, because he is rather smart and such a stinker. Toby likes to bark, i think just to bark. And his bark his loud and harsh. When the doctor came in he just started barking up a storm, but after she gave him a treat he sat and scooted towards her to get another. This was very funny.
Buddy went first, and checked out well. When she was on the table Toby sat next to the nurse and put his face as close to the table as he could. It looked like he was trying to be the third doctor.
When the doctor said okay Toby it's your turn, he went from a dog pretending to be brave by barking and looking at Buddy, and immediately ran behind my mom's legs (who was standing in the corner). He put his head in the corner and would not even look at the vet. lol She had to coax him from behind her legs, and put him for a while. He did alright the rest of the checkup. They had to put a muzzle on him because he has tried to bit the vet before, and he really tried to look as pathetic as possible. He wouldn't look at anyone and just stood there while the vet examined him (which was quick and not bad, so I'm not sure what he was so scared of).
Once the muzzle was off, the vet gave Toby more treats and she called him a very sucky dog- as in knows how to suck up and get treats. hahaha

Team Edward

Before I came home for the summer I started praying and asking God to help me have patience with my parents, and help me be kind towards them. (it's very hard coming from total independence and going to very little independence. Fortunately, me and my parents have got along fine so far.
But instead of having me just deal with my parents, God decided to put a man in my life this summer who would help me learn patience. And if anyone knows me I can be rather impatient.
Edward is a very sweet, very friendly, old man who unfortunately had a very bad head accident and now is a bit slow, and it's hard for him to talk. Friday was the first day I worked with him. He spent a hour explaining how to make new patient files (something I have been doing for 6 years). I kept trying to say I already know how to do this, as polite as possible but he still just kept showing me. I got very annoyed and frustrated. On the car ride home Friday I was praying, and blowing off steam to God. When He told me working with Edward was how I was gonna learn patience. This is very true. I've worked with him everyday since, and I try and be as kind and as patient as I can. I now look forward to when he stops by to chat. I have heard people talk about Edward behind his back, and a lot of people at the office do not like him and think he is annoying because he is slow. I think the contrary, he is so sweet and encouraging and rather fun to talk to, even though the conversations take a while.
He always comes to see how I am doing during the day, and when he walks away he says "Yay team!".

hair cut

I got a hair cut yesterday! Just a trim with more bangs!
I love going to get my hair cut because I always get told what good care I take of my hair. Unlike the doctor, or dentist who always have negative things to say.

farmers market

My parents and I went to the farmers market in town last night for dinner and veg buying. I've never been to the one in town, my dad and i usually go to the one in the next town over. But this one was great. There was a live band, tons of stalls, lots of yummy fruit to try, and dinner stalls.
I had some falafel for dinner, with was alright. It was a tad dry. But the fruit I went around eating was some of the sweetest I've ever had. I had a great time walking around talking to vendors about their fruit and veggies. My favorite vendor and I talked about fruit drying for a while. I bought some of his raisins, which were the prettiest raisins i have ever seen. They were golden, pink, purple, and red. It's was a very beautiful melody.
The raisins, strawberries, and white peaches were my favorite!

I can't wait for next week, i'll bring my camera and take pictures.

JOhn! pancakes, and the airport

John Wenhold drove my car up from Austin this past week. It was soooo nice to have a friend from Baylor here. We drove around town and watched a movie and had pizza! It was nice to have a friend here.
Anyways the point of this post is this story:
I had to take him to the airport early Thursday morning and before we were planning on stopping to get breakfast. Breakfast took forever getting to us, so we had to get our pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausauge, and fruit to go. This food is probably one of the hardest to eat in the car. Syrup is sticky and gets everyway. Oh and it spills easy. So off we drove into SF to the airport eating with our fingers cuz they didn't give us forks. It was delicious, difficult to not make a huge mess, and very hilarious. Once we started eating we just started laughing! We were sucessful in eating our breakfast, although I did make a tiny sticky mess.

Graduation

I went to my high school's graduation this past saturday to support Geneva's sister Emily. I saw a lot of people I knew but for some reason tried to keep my head down because I didn't want to talk to any of them.
Being around people from high school (even teachers) kinda reminded me how much i hated high school. I had a hard time with various stupid friend drama, and eventually told off all my old "good" friends because they were doing things and talking about me behind my back, and would tell Geneva and stuff. I'm glad I'm done with high school and all the people there.
I saw a few old friends and it seemed so fake, they all said how much they missed me and wanted to hang with me. Some of these are the same friends who were never "free" last summer when I called them often to hang out.
It made me realize how great my college friends are and how much I love all of them!

my sad life without milk

...So my nutritionist has told I can only eat fruits, veg, meat, and healthy fats (olive oil, avocados, etc...) no dairy, sugar, and grains for at least 90 days. (i will not follow this when I am in Ocean city. The ice cream, cheese steaks, and pizza there is too good.) Not having dairy is much harder than I thought. I drink a ton of milk and eat lots of yogurt. And I can't have the soy versions of milk or yogurt, because of my allergy to it.
Also I can't have sugar. =(

I was telling Hailey about what I can and can't eat and she (as many others) have told me my life must suck because I can't eat certain things. But it really just forces you to be creative with your meals.
It is hard, and I have been craving a glass of milk all week. But I do it because it really helps me feel better.

होम

after a "fun" ordeal yesterday of getting my eye very badly scratched I finally made it home (after a miserable flight- BUddy had a better time than me, she ate and slept the whole way there). This morning was the first time I was really able to open my eye. So that's good. The swelling has gone down, but it's still red though.

I am having a very good time this morning watching Buddy and Toby play in the backyard and in the house. It's really very cute and funny.

Also I haven't been home in 6 months, its weird being home now.

And I have a sort of restricted diet I need to be on. And there is nothing to eat in the house really. I'm just waiting for my dad to get home so I can take the car and go get something to eat.

My running miles this week are a bit off because of my lack of a good run yesterday and the shoes i ordered for here came as only two right shoes? So just another thing to do...

butterflies....

Jeff,

How is it you still give can give me butterflies when you kiss me? Sometimes it's so bad I don't know what to do with myself. I get overwhelmed with how much I love you.

Prince of Persia...

Jacob and I went to see Prince of Persia tonight. And I was not expecting much, because from what I heard it wasn't very good. But seriously, it was amazing! Jacob and I (and the little boy who stood up and pretended he had a sword during the fight scenes) loved it!
The action was awesome. The story was really good, the ending was surprising, and I mean can you really get any hotter than Jake Gyllenhall in his get up? A lot of the lines were cheesy but it didn't make it less awesome for me. I liked it almost as much at the first Pirates of the Carribean.
Also Alfred Molina was hilarious! and I loved him!

-ps i have a crush on jake gyllenhall's arms and eyes

best jacob night all year...

I have this dear friend named Jacob. He is super sweet, and silly, and very much fun to be around.
I haven't spent as much time with him this year as I did last year, and I'm a little dissapointed for that. Tonight I went to his new place to pick up some drawings and paintings, and ended up staying for a few hours. First we survayed the new apartment, thought of decorating ideas, explored the closests, etc... But this storm sort of blew up very quickly, and I suggested we go out on the balcony to look at the lighting. And boy, did we see some lightning!!
I have never seen such bright, colorful lightning, and such defined and long bolts of it! (even better than the night I drove out by myself to look at it) At one time a bolt snaked it way across the entire sky. It was so amazing.

I never realized how much I need Jacob in my life. He was one of my best friends last year, and this year I spent more time with Ben and Ryan. Who are total sweethearts. But they do a lot of the talking, and it can be hard for me to get a word in. Sometimes it's nice to just talk to Jacob, because he listens. And he has some good stories. But we talked about everything from rain and storms, to relationships, to painting. It was a good time. It wins my favorite night with Jacob of the whole year!

Homestead

yesterday a group of us- Ben, Billy, Andrew, Claire, Erica, and I- all went up to Homestead Heritage for lunch. It's this small menonite community that makes they most fantastic food. Not only did we enjoy a delicious meal, but we enjoyed walking around the farm, and petting the animals.
But my favorite thing was easily the strawberry rhubarb pie!
